The Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI) is the national research institute in ophthalmology and vision science in Singapore, and one of the leading eye research institutes in the Asia Pacific region in terms of quantity and quality of peer-reviewed publications. Serving as the research institute of the Singapore National Eye Centre, and directly affiliated to the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, as well the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School, SERI undertakes vision research in collaboration with local clinical ophthalmic centres and biomedical research institutions, as well as major eye centers and research institutes throughout the world.

SERI has a staff of 130 and conducts all aspects of clinical, translational/applied and basic research in ophthalmology and the visual sciences. Our focus areas of research include myopia, ocular stem cell research, ocular surface disease, diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, ocular imaging, epidemiology and clinical trials. In the 5 years, SERI is undergoing a major exciting re-development and will have available more than $30million injection of new research funds, state of the art facilities, and faculties. Eye research in Singapore is on par in terms of recognition and importance as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes.

SERI is inviting suitably qualified candidates for the following position:

Senior Laboratory Executive / Assistant Laboratory Manager

Responsibilities:

• To assist the SERI Senior Scientific Director and Assistant Directors to oversee all administrative, operational and staff-related matters for the SERI Laboratory.
• To serve as an inter-face between SERI Laboratory and Senior Management.
• To assist SERI’s Senior Management and PIs to coordinate and assist in the development of the Centre, Programmatic and Individual grants, which may involve planning, drafting and submitting grant proposals and research protocols.
• Assisting PIs with the costing of their study budgets, and proof-reading of their scientific abstracts/ papers, as well as the preparation of their progress reports periodically or as requested by the various funding agencies.
• To serve as an interface between SERI Laboratory and SNEC clinicians, and to provide research-specific administrative and operational support to SERI PIs and SNEC Clinicians.

Requirements:

• BSc/ MSc in Sciences / Biomedical Sciences
• Experience/ Knowledge in Lab Management and/ or Research Grant Administration will be an added advantage.
• Knowledgeable in areas of Laboratory Biosafety requirements, IACUC, BATA Act, ISO14001, OHSAS18001.
• A self-driven and meticulous individual who possesses good interpersonal skills to work in a team-based environment.
• Proficient in written and oral communication skills, with the ability to work well with researchers and administrative staff.
• Degree holders with administrative work experience in a research environment, and equipped with competent writing skills will be considered
